Saturday August 27, 2011 Toronto Ontario, Dalton Brady (16) and Jessie Munroe (12) both from Welland participate in the Import Fest Thai Kickboxing Championships held this past weekend at the Toronto Convention Centre. Both Competitors impressed with each of them winning their matches via unanimous decision.
Munroe was first up competing in his first Thai Kickboxing match. his division is the 11-12 year old light contact middle weight division (light contact involves kicks below and above the waist as well as punches). From the opening bell Munroe set a grueling pace right from the start where he out punched his opponent for all three rounds which ended with both he and his opponent staggering from exhaustion. In the end it was Munroe whose hand was raised.
Brady was up next in the 16-17 year old lightweight K1 division. The K1 division allows for kicks below the waist as well as clinching, knees, sweeps and punches. Brady showed more poise throughout the match than his opponent from Mississauga Ontario by cutting off the ring and counter striking more efficiently throughout the match. It was these factors that helped him earn a split decision. This was Brady’s second K1 victory this summer bringing his record to 2-1.
“Dalton’s first fight we saw an immature fighter lock-up and allow his emotions to get the better of him back in February. After that we worked very hard on bringing him to the same level mentally as he is physically and he has really excelled and looked very impressive through his two matches this summer,” said Brady’s Coach Chris Bonfoco of Welland’s Modern Vision MMA (Team Ascension K1) where both Munroe and Brady Train.
Next up for Modern Vision and Team Ascension is this weekend as Brendan Fang of Wainfleet faces off against Columbus Ohio’s Jeremy Langley in MMA at The Ohio Fighting Championships promotion in Columbus Ohio.
